Daniel Sellers was MinnCAN’s executive director from 2012-2016.

Precinct caucuses will take place throughout the state today, Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m., and I encourage you to attend yours.

There, in addition to electing local party leaders and rallying support for candidates, you’ll have an opportunity to make sure your party integrates your vision for great public schools. If you attend your caucus, we encourage you to write a resolution on strengthening public education for Minnesota kids.

If you need help writing your resolution, use these ideas as a guide:

  • Provide teachers and parents with meaningful student data so all families know how their kids are progressing, and schools and policymakers know whether we’re closing our achievement gaps.
  • Allow school leaders to hire from the widest talent pools and bring on board the teachers they need to support their students.
  • Empower Minnesota parents with real choice so they can pick from an array of high-quality public school options for their kids.
  • Implement teacher evaluations with fidelity to measure student growth and teacher effectiveness.

Find your meeting location here.

Let us know if you go–and make sure to share updates on Twitter and Facebook!
