For legislative session this is a big week! We’re anticipating the presentation, review, amendment and passage of both the Senate and House omnibus K-12 budget bills in committee. The Senate E-12 Division Chair, Sen. Chuck Wiger, has said that his office will post the omnibus bill language sometime early this week–his committee will likely hear the omnibus bill yet this week. Rep. Paul Marquart, chair of the House Education Finance Committee, will put forth the House's language on Wednesday; the House Education Finance committee will hear public testimony on the bill on Thursday–and will entertain amendments–and vote on the bill on Friday.

Just yesterday, House Speaker Paul Thissen, Majority Leader Erin Murphy, MinneMinds bill author Rep. Ryan Winkler and other members of the House Majority Caucus held a press conference announcing that the House K-12 bill will contain a significant investment in “MinneMinds” pre-k scholarships. We also anticipate that the Senate bill will include an investment in the MinneMinds proposal.

If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to tell your legislators that pre-K investments are important to you! Let let them know that an investment in quality pre-k is the right thing to do for Minnesota’s youngest learners–and our state’s future.

Stay tuned for additional updates as the week unfolds. Also, please let feel free to contact me at Christopher.Orr@minncan.org if you have any questions.
