ACTION NEEDED TODAY: Great principals are skating on thin ice!

Political balking is threatening to keep Minnesota from scouting its MVPs: Most Valuable Principals. The Senate recently passed a bill out of committee that would tie 35 percent of a principal’s evaluation to student learning. But that bill isn’t viable unless its companion, H.F. 2677, gets a hearing in the House.

House representatives have been stalling instead of moving this bill forward. But State Representative Sondra Erickson has the power to send the bill to the House Education Reform Committee. Click here to tell her to give the bill the hearing it deserves.



Leadership matters—a lot. As the captains of our public schools, it’s up to principals to foster a learning environment where students and great teachers alike can thrive. We need to cultivate great school leaders by identifying which principals are succeeding and which are faltering, and then make sure they get the help that they need or the recognition that they deserve.

Right now state law ties 35 percent of a teacher’s evaluation to how much their students are learning. It’s only fair that principals be held to the same standard.

Scouting Minnesota’s great principals is a vital play in the Playbook for Education in Minnesota. We can’t let legislators sit this one out. Please take action now.
