Daniel Sellers was MinnCAN’s executive director from 2012-2016.

Last week, the House Education Policy Committee tabled Rep. Linda Slocum's (DFL-District 50A) student teacher placement bill–a simple measure to ensure student teachers are paired with highly effective teacher mentors during their clinical experience. But the door is still open…

Sen. John Hoffman (DFL-District 36) is championing this effort and the Senate Education Committee is slated to consider S.F. 2540 this week!

Please contact your Senator today and ask them to support S.F. 2540.

This is our chance to replicate best teaching practices. Every year, 9,000 future teachers graduate from a local teaching program–and many of them make their way into Minnesota classrooms. Before they can take on the coveted title of teacher, they spend 10 weeks with a licensed teacher who mentors and trains them.

Many teachers tell us that having a positive, rigorous clinical experience is critical to their preparation and long-term success in the classroom.

Make sure student teachers are paired with highly effective, master teachers!

Thank you!
