Vallay Varro was a founding state executive director. She now serves as the president of 50CAN.

By now you’ve heard that the government shutdown is almost over. The Governor and the legislature reached a deal, which means government services will likely start back up soon.

What you might not know is that as you read this, policymakers are working out the final details of the deal and considering whether to include crucial pre-K reforms and an evaluation system to put a great teacher in every Minnesota classroom.

That means we have one final shot to win our remaining two campaign goals. If we pull this off, Minnesota will be on track to closing its achievement gap and ensuring all of our children get the great education they need and deserve.

In these last crucial hours of negotiation, we need you to make sure policymakers fight for these reforms. Please click here to send a letter urging them to:

  • Remove the blindfold from Minnesota families through a pre-K quality rating system that helps parents identify the best program for their preschooler.
  • Provide scholarships to low-income families so they can access high-quality pre-K programs.
  • Enact a teacher effectiveness system to put a great teacher in every Minnesota classroom.

Thank you for supporting our campaign over the last few months through your letters to legislators and photos in our Remove the Blindfold Project. Now join us in this final sprint to make sure Minnesota doesn’t miss out on its chance to ensure that the future of our children, our economy and our state is bright.
