We're back in St. Paul—exhausted after a long journey, but more ready than ever to champion laws that will lead to great schools. Nicholas Banovetz and I recently completed our Road to Success listening tour, during which we visited 18 cities and traveled nearly 2,000 miles across the North Star State.
We met with hundreds of teachers and administrators, plus countless leaders across communities. We saw great educators at work in some of our most successful schools, and learned from many people what needs to change if we’re serious about improving public education for every student.
Our appreciation goes out to the Minnesotans who greeted us at each stop–listed below–sharing their time, feedback and ideas. Their hospitality was gratifying and their candor on education was refreshing. These are among the communities where schools are beating the odds:
- Cloquet
- Grand Rapids
- Deer River
- Brainerd
- Verndale
- Fergus Falls
- Ashby
- Laporte
- Bemidji
- Detroit Lakes
- Redwood Falls
- Morgan
- Tracy
- Marshall
- Cottage Grove
- Northfield
- Mounds View
- New Brighton
The conversations across the state were incredibly rich–ideas and opportunities pouring from each and every direction. We have newfound energy, and look forward to reporting back yet this year in detail on the themes we heard while on Road to Success. Stay tuned!
