There was a good turnout at yesterday's education town hall, with ample representation from lawmakers, nonprofit organizations, and parents. It's amazing how many topics can be covered in just a few hours! People discussed everything from the education finance omnibus bill to the achievement gap to high school curriculum.
Our two remaining campaign goals, Building a Barometer for Teacher Effectiveness and Clearing the Path to Quality Pre-K, also got some floor time. Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius talked about the Governor's Seven Point Education Plan, which includes a pre-K quality rating system. She also mentioned the Governor's support for his desire to pass a teacher effectiveness bill that's separate from the education finance omnibus bill.
Overall there the town hall provoked a lot of lively discussions. It was great to see Minnesotans of all walks of life turn out to talk about these important issues!
