Over the past week or so we distributed two action alerts to MinnCAN members asking for your advocacy on behalf of a $1.5 million appropriation to grow Teach For America in Minnesota. In the first alert we asked you to call Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk; in the second we asked you to write your state senator in support of this appropriation.
We just finished pouring over the reports and we're grinning from ear to ear: hundreds of MinnCAN members called Sen. Bakk and even more wrote or called their legislator.
I’m proud to write that your actions on this critical investment made a huge difference: the Teach For America appropriation made it through committee hearings and the senate passed it on the floor by a vote of 46-18 as part of the Higher Education Omnibus Bill.
