Daniel Sellers was MinnCAN’s executive director from 2012-2016.

I officially start as MinnCAN’s executive director next week, but I wanted to take a moment to thank so many of you for supporting me in this transition and to express my gratitude to Founding Executive Director Vallay Varro.

The mighty task of closing Minnesota’s staggering achievement gaps is both humbling and inspiring. As a state, partly to the credit of MinnCAN and strong advocates at the capitol, we’ve responded with incredible research, compassion and vigor. So to write that I’m elated to lead MinnCAN is an understatement.

Thanks to Vallay’s leadership and the near 5,000 Minnesotans like you who have joined the movement, you have successfully advocated for policies that will help make sure all Minnesota students are college- and career-ready. To date, MinnCAN has celebrated six policy wins. Collectively they comprise one heck of an ed reform movement.

I invite you to watch this 90-second video we assembled as a testament to Vallay’s hard work. She’s been a great face for the organization and we’re thrilled to share her with our sister campaigns across the United States.

Minnesota's ed reform movement has grown rapidly in recent years, but we still have a lot of work ahead to restore Minnesota as the pioneer in public education it once was. And this time we’re going to make sure every child, no matter their race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, has access to a great public school.

Please reach out to me at daniel.sellers@minncan.org with any thoughts or questions. I look forward to working with you in the very near future!
