St. Paul, Minn. – MinnCAN: The Minnesota Campaign for Achievement Now today released School & District Report Cards for every Minnesota public school as well as Top 10 lists for Minnesota’s top elementary, middle and high schools.

Access School & District Report Cards

"After two years of engaging thousands of Minnesotans in conversations, we’re increasingly mindful that far too many people aren’t aware of nation-trailing achievement gaps or how local schools measure up,” said MinnCAN Executive Director Daniel Sellers. “These report cards will provide parents with easily accessible information on how schools across the state are advancing student learning.”

MinnCAN’s School & District Report Cards highlight student learning in five key categories:

  • Student performance
  • Subgroup performance
  • Performance gains
  • Achievement gaps
  • Graduation rates

Report cards include letter grades for each category, ranging from “A” to “F” based on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment results the Minnesota Department of Education released in August 2012.

Gleaning data from report cards, MinnCAN released Top 10 lists of schools whose student learning and achievement were the highest-performing in the following areas:

  • Performance gains (excludes high schools because reading and math are tested once)
  • Low-income student performance
  • Black student performance
  • Latino student performance
  • Asian student performance
  • Native American student performance
  • English-language learners student performance

“Minnesota’s high-performing schools span from the Iron Range to Minneapolis’ Northside and Alexandria to Fridley,” continued Sellers. “There’s a lot to celebrate.”
