We’re focused on a Minnesota where all students excel in rigorous and relevant schools. Learn more about our impact across the state.

MinnCAN Executive Director Vallay Varro put out the following statement following Governor Dayton’s veto of the education finance omnibus bill, which contained a provision on teacher effectiveness. That provision was the closest we’ve come all session to building a system to fill Minnesota classrooms with great teachers.

“While we are disappointed that the Governor’s veto means no teacher evaluations, we understand that other factors were at play in this bill. Now, we have a second shot to get this right. Over 1000 MinnCAN supporters have urged the legislature and the Governor to come together this year and make sure that teacher evaluations become a reality in Minnesota. There’s already agreement from both sides that they want to get it done. The time is now to make good on their promise for Minnesota kids. Teacher evaluations are our chance to show the country that Minnesotans are willing to put aside partisanship on issues that really matter.”
